Cheverny

More Information

Look familiar?  The centre portion of Cheverny, located in in the Loire valley village of Sologne, near Blois, was Herge's inspiration for Captain Haddock's chateau, Moulinsart, in the comic series Tintin.

Originally built in the 1400's, today's version dates from 1640 and has been in the same family since its construction.  The current Count of Cheverny still lives here with his family and lives much in the way his ancestors did.

The couple approaching the camera were our companions on the bus.  They are from Australia.

The house is full of beautiful furniture

As in the other chateaux, tapestries line the walls

This beautiful dresser replaced one which was stolen.

One of the many fireplaces.

One whole room was full of armour

Scenes from Don Quixote lined the walls of the dining room.

A beautiful grandfather clock.  It still works!
